This early type Stub Axle (Bearing Sleeve) utilized a key-way for the lock tab washer (part no. 217353) that hadn't changed since its introduction in 1948 (yes, Series 1), quite often the tang on the lock washer would easily distort or rip off (because the washer wanted to turn too) when torquing up the outer lock nut for the wheel hub, Land Rover fixed this problem by introducing a new Stub Axle that had a flat side and a new lock tab washer without a tang, see here: FRC8002
